Our school is located in Küçükçekmece which is one of the biggest and most populated quarters in Istanbul. There is a lagoon in the quarter, and it looks like a little drawer. Actually, because of the shape of the lagoon, this quarter is named as Küçükçekmece. It is easy to reach all the historic places and shopping malls from our district.
Fahreddin Kerim Gökay Anatolian High school was founded in 1993 as a secondary level Government High School. It is one of the most prestigious schools that the students are admitted with the highest level of grades in the national high school admission examination. We have around 939 students between 14-18 years of age of families from different socio-economic backgrounds. We also have several students with special education needs.
Including the directory staff there are 56 teachers and 6 staff, and 31 classes in our school. The school offers a four-year program and learning English/German as a second language is of importance. We also have some different classes for different purposes. The subjects are Turkish Literature, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, German, Geography, History, Philosophy, P.E., Religion, Art, Music, and Guidance. We have 1 conference hall, 1 chemistry lab, 1 biology lab, 1 physics lab, 2 IT classes, 1 music class, 1 art class, 1 library, 1 infirmary. Our school aims to provide a secular, modern, creative, and constructive education in contemporary Atatürk's Principles and to continue raising dynamic generations.
In Turkey we have a central examination system for secondary schools and universities. As for the secondary schools, the students who take the highest marks from these exams will have a right to have an education in the privileged schools called project schools and our school is the most successful and well known one in our district. The majority of the students who graduate from our school, mostly study medicine and engineering at the best universities in Turkey.
Our mission is to foster academic excellence while nurturing moral and responsible young leader with dignity, integrity and compassion, who want to make a difference in the world. Our vision will be compassionate moral and visionary leaders who strive for excellence.
Also, we have a debate club in our school which give our students to improve their debating and language skills as well as developing skills such as: communication, cooperation, creativity, discipline, logical thinking and eagerness to learn, organization and interpersonal skills. In this way they will develop and strengthen their self-confidence and self-esteem, improve their sense of European citizenship and identity.
