Yordan Radichkov Foreign language high school is a general education municipal high school from 8th to 12th grade. Students are 436 at the age of 14 to 19.The teachers are 31. Students study intensively English during the 8th grade and continue it till 12th grade. From 9th grade the students choose to study German, French , Spanish or Russian as a second foreign language. Biology, Chemistry ,Philosophy and Civil Education are taught bilingual in English and Bulgarian. Our school is situated in a semi-urban region that has lost its economic and industrial potential due to political reasons. Thus many factories were closed and abandoned. Many people left the region and went to the capital of Bulgaria or immigrated abroad to search new opportunities to work. Many families were separated. Many children were left to their grandparents or relatives for upbringing. 436 students study in our school. 36 students commute every day to school from the nearest villages. We have 20 Roma students. 18 students live in the boarding house near the school. So our school is a regional. We offer studying foreign languages to all our students. The school is rated high in our region. The students are highly motivated to study and achieve progress. After finishing school all students continue their education in universities in Bulgaria or abroad. The students work on the national project”With care to every student” held by the Ministry of education. This project offers extra-curricular activities to all students in different fields of interest – languages, ICT, photography, intercultural communication, sports, music and dances, theatre. 156 students are involved in 7 groups. Our school has worked on 3 European projects under Erasmus+ program of Strategic partnership with schools only. They were dealing with discrimination and bullyng at school and national traditions. T They worked how to neutralize hate speech at school. Under the last project “Stereotyping stops creativeness” the school includes in the curriculun pesson to neutralize stereotyping at school in this school year. Our school now works on two European projects under Erasmus+ program dealing with violence and ways to foster creativeness among students. The second project Labour market at school is trying to help our students to learn how to become enterprenewers and create a small scale business plan in the next two years 2019-2021. We have joined this project as we understood the importance of building positive thinking and attitude to the EU and how it is important to be responsible citizen who are self-confident and consider the EU issues.
