RADVILISKIO LIZDEIKOS GIMNAZIJA
Lizdeika gymnasium is a four-year upper secondary school implementing secondary education. In September 2017 the gymnasium was joined by another gymnasium of the town and since then the only Lizdeika gymnasium providing upper secondary education exists in the town. At present there are 64 teachers and 630 students in the gymnasium. The
administration staff consist of the principal, two vice-principals for education and one for gymnasium economy. The gymnasium reaches the best results in academic achievement, forming students’ tolerance, social and critical-thinking competences as well as designing community’s positive values. The gymnasium strives for developing students' abilities
and skills necessary in the 21st century. It is obvious that academic achievement is very important for the future studies but nowadays general competences are even more important. Moreover, it is clear that those competences and skills are better gained not having a traditional class but participating in non-formal activities. Our gymnasium has developed good intercultural and Art training as we implement about 10 international projects per school year, students create a performance, musical or rock opera. To develop efficiently science subjects the teachers organize classes in different environment. To broaden humanitarian training, we foster our native language and literature organizing different
conferences and events devoted to the Lithuanian language. We encourage students to learn more than one foreign language. Our gymnasium teaches English, French, German, Spanish and Russian. Broadening community ‘s attitude is very necessary for developing general competences: social responsibility, tolerance, consciousness, self-confidence,
citizenship, critical and creative thinking as they are important and concurrent for 21st century people. Our gymnasium has been in the network of European Parliament schools for 6 years so we have been participating actively in the activities and initiatives linked to the EU issues. To encourage students to be active citizens and strengthen their self-confidence
the gymnasium established (teachers created) optional programmes such as philosophy, debating in English, social entrepreneurship, the latter is the result of Erasmus+ project ‘Student today –responsible entrepreneur tomorrow’.
We are implementing four Erasmus+ projects involving teacher’s professional development and students’ exchange as well as their training. We have been cooperating as exchange projects with Rotterdam gymnasium (Netherlands), Hapajaarvi in Finland, New Delhi school in India and Argentina’s Lithuanian community in Berisso.
Participating in international activities encourages Lizdeika community to broaden the horizons in understanding social values of our environment, responsibility and citizenship.
